1. Re just like 'carmen' 'marissa' is of latin origin. 'maris' means 'of the sea' or even 'by the sea' (that child better be a water sign, or i'll have to fight eli and vanessa) - it's also a contractive nickname used in spain and italy for names such as 'maria isabel' or 'maria luisa' Source
