1. Re @rebeccabutlerm2 The only comparable argument would be if ex-pats (if I weren't a Brit too, I'd say immigrants, it's all relative to who uses the word) in Spain tried to stop the Spanish from eating paella, dancing flamenco etc. Source
2. Re @drownedbook I first came to Spain in my late teens to learn to dance flamenco... I still have the receipt from when I studied with Cristobal Reyes at Mariquilla's Flamenco school in Granada in 1992 (3 decades ago!).
